a2ps converts text files to pretty-printed PostScript format suitable for printing on a PostScript printer. For more details try
a2ps-4.10.4: description + notes
man a2ps
orinfo a2ps
.The main features of version 4.10.4 are:
- Pretty Printing of many languages is supported via style sheets, which are easy to understand, patch and develop. Regular expressions can be used.
- Automatic style selection is controlled by a stand alone file (
/usr/freeware/share/a2ps/sheets/sheets.map
). You can define rules to automatically select a style sheet.- Delegations gives you uniform access to most PostScript producers, such as netscape (HTML to PostScript), psnup (PostScript to PostScript), groff (roff to PostScript), etc.
- (Weak) PPD support allows automatic font downloading. That means you can can break through the 13 basic Level 1 PostScript font restriction, and go to the 35 Level 2 fonts.
- Named outputs (printers etc.) are much more powerful. For instance you may define `file' to be the symbolic output `> $N.#.', which means that `a2ps foo.c bar.h -P file' will save the PostScript into `foo.ps'. Thanks to version control a la GNU Emacs, there is no fear of overwriting important files.
- Some tools are provided with a2ps: card prints reference cards of your favorite programs, psmandup helps you to print duplex on non-duplex printers, fixps automatically fixes many common problems in PostScript files, and pdiff makes pretty contextual diff.
- Many encodings are supported, most notably the ISO Latin 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 are quite well handled, thanks to ogonkify.
- Output design is customizable (colors, fonts etc.).
- a2ps has been localized for a number of languages.
Note that
/usr/freeware/etc/a2ps.cfg
does not assume that you have installed any additional freeware packages. If you install gv (or ghostview), bzip, bzip2, psutils (dvips, psselect, psnup), pdf2ps, dvips, pdf2ps, groff, or ImageMagick (convert) executables you may wish to uncomment the relevant delegations in Section 7.
To auto-install this package, go back and click on the respective install icon.
